How significant are we?

Filed under: Time Out — Dick Hardt @ 10:57 am

This picture of the smaller planets makes Earth look pretty important:

Planets1-1

… but then when you look at the other planets, you get a different perspective …

Planets2

… and then we just become little more then than a dot …

Planets3

and then you realize, we only have a little sun …

Planets4-1

that becomes only a dot in the scale of things ….

Planets5

  6. There were 2 posters displayed dealing with almost this precise topic at the last CHI (www.chi2006.org) conference. I was surprised at the time that 2 groups independently came up with the similar idea. Then this was followed shortly by the Apple announcement. I really wonder how this happens. Is there some common source of inspiration that these people share? Or maybe iPod culture has just developed enough that people are starting to think seriously about these things?

I still think that Apple’s top iPod priority should be a car dash-mount iPod player. You just pop in your iPod like a tape, and then use the controls on the dash. There are car kits already, but they aren’t nearly elegant enough, and take too much effort for the user.
