Where 2.0

Filed under: Web 2.0 — Dick Hardt @ 3:22 pm

Sitting in the back of Where 2.0.

Cool things I heard so far include:

  • Nathan Eagle talked about the Reality Mining work they are doing at the MIT Media lab. By using giving Nokia phones out to a hundred people they tracked where they were and what they did with the phone. Some interesting social patterns where determined (profs move around alot less then undergrads).Paper is here.

  • One of the talks was about real world locating gaming. It was interesting but what struck me was the use of semacodes. Enabling a camera phone get a URL by taking a photo of the semacode. Since the URL could be data for many different applications, you could see taking a photo being like clicking on a link. A vcard could be at the URL that you take the photo of for adding someone to your phone address book.

    Scary, Scary

Sobering tragedy today in California. Two people died in a seal gray Carrera GT just like mine. I’ve had a light foot since mine got out of the hospital. It will stay light.
