The New Big
The cool hardware intro at WWDC was the new 30″ monitors. Here was the display table showing the family … I have to get me one of those things on the right. The aluminum bezel and stand are very sweet — and match the G5s very well.

Being a new member of the Cult of Steve, I had to attend WWDC. As expected, Mr. Jobs was his usual showman. I was pretty amazed that he pretty much did the whole show.
Tiger is a very cool looking OS, and I left reassured that investing in OS X is the right thing to do. I liked this banner:

I was on a panel talking about Identity at SuperNova 2004. Fast Company and Red Herring blogged it as did many other people. Some of them even spelled Sxip right. ![]()
I was at SuperNova 2004 and had a good time chatting with many of my “conference buddies”. I sat back one evening and realized that I have made a number of good friends that I primarily see at conferences. I found it strange that someone I see once, twice or maybe three times a year can become a long lost buddy when I see them later on. I then reflected on friendships that I have in Vancouver and realized that many of them I see less than the ones that I see at conferences. Wierd.
Today I heard the CEO of Harrah’s, Gary Loveman, talk about what he has done for the gambling machine. Gary was a prof at harvard prior to his career at Harrah’s, and is a unique example of an academic out there proving that propeller heads can make stuff happen. Great guy. Great presenter.
Using Decision Science and an extensive IT system, he has taken loyalty programs to a new level. Depending on your predicted vs actual behaviour, they send out targeted messages to motivate you to spend your money gambling. A great insight into what can be done with today’s info tech, as well as an interesting glimpse into the psyche of a gambler. I have a better understanding of my Vegas holiday now. ![]()
For some reason the things that come to mind when writing this blog are from the entertainment side of my life.
I am in NY on my way to Boston for the MIT/WEO Advanced Business Program (they promised to give it a sexy new name while we are here)
I was staying at a friend’s place in Manhattan and we went out dancing. Just like Vegas, you can get a table and your own bottle of vodka which you can pour yourself whenever you like. Very civilized. Once again I was impressed with the energy and attidude of NY. I like to think that Vancouver is metropolitan, which it is, but it ain’t NY, nor Vegas.
A couple of months ago a good buddy invited me on a Vegas trip (which he organized –even better) and my amazing assistant pretty much forced me NOT to cancel the trip, even though it is the weekend before our Preview launch of the Sxip Network. We are staying at the Bellagio.
